HOW DOES THIS VACCINE WORK ?
The vaccine developed by Oxford, which belongs to a category called non- replicating viral vector vaccines, tries to build the body's immunity against the spike protein which is the key reason for the virus to penetrate the cell and multiply.
WHAT ABOUT IT'S TRIAL RESULT ?
The preliminary results of phase TRAIL-I & TRAIL - II of the vaccine have shown that vaccine to be safe and build an immune response in the participants.
And Globally Oxford has already begun a phase - III trial in Brazil , UK and Africa. Meanwhile Serums Institute of India has tied up with Oxford to conduct phase - III trial in India before the vaccine can be launched.
WHEN IT WILL BE AVAILABLE IN MARKET ?
Adar Poonawalla who is the chief executive officer of the Serum Institute of India said that third phase trials of covishield will begin in August and they plan it to wrap it up by October- November.He shared that he is hopeful of that 300 million doses of the vaccine candidate ‘Covishield’, developed by the Oxford University will be manufactured by December 2020. He also stressed that half of the vaccine produced in SII ( serum Institute of India ) will go to India and the other half will go to other countries as there an urgent need to equally immunace the world to contain the pandemic.
CAN THE VACCINE AFFORDS BY COMMON PEOPLE ?
Adar said that it may be too soon to comment about vaccine price, but they want to make the vaccine really affordable as they “don’t want to make a profit out of the pandemic.” But it is estimated that it's price will be within 1000 rupees..
